Our team provides authoritative guidance and standards on quality, safety and efficacy of health products and supports countries to formulate evidence-based policies and ensure good practice throughout the value chain.
Medical devices should be safe, of good quality and appropriate to the settings in where they are used. Recognizing this important role of health technologies towards universal health coverage, the World Health Assembly adopted resolution WHA60.29 in May 2007. By adopting this resolution, Member States urged expansion of expertise in the field of medical technology. The resolution also requested that WHO supports Member States in achieving WHO’s strategic objective: " to ensure improved access, quality and use of medical products and technologies”
To meet this objective, WHO Medical Devices and In Vitro Diagnostics Team has devised the "WHO Medical Devices Technical Series".
