The Cayman Islands National Insurance Company, also known as CINICO, was founded in 2004 with the guidance of the Honorable Gilbert McLean, former Minister of Health.
The primary purpose of establishing CINICO was to provide insurance coverage to all civil servants, pensioners, seafarers, veterans, and their families. CINICO now also provides health insurance to many Statutory Authorities and Government Companies.
CINICO was established following the Mercer Review, which was requested by the Cayman Islands Government (CIG) after the collapse of the Caribbean Home Insurance Program that had previously insured all civil servants. To provide healthcare access to civil servants, the Health Insurance and Health Fees Advisory Committee was formed by the CIG. And that’s how CINICO came into being.
Apart from providing coverage for civil servants and their dependents, CINICO is also responsible for administering health benefits to indigent residents of the Cayman Islands, as well as those who face difficulties obtaining health insurance due to pre-existing conditions.
In March 2024, CINICO introduced Motor and Home insurance cover. Available to all residents of the Cayman Islands, the expansion of services provides greater choice for Caymanians and residents, as well as helping to build the resiliency of the insurance sector in the future.
CINICO has been serving the community of the Cayman Islands with great pride since its inception, and we will continue providing quality healthcare and other insurance services to our residents for many more years to come.
